⁴⁶ So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.^(A)

⁴⁷ Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph^(A) saw where he was laid.

Jesus Has Risen^(A)

16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices^(B) so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. ² Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb ³ and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”^(C)

⁴ But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. ⁵ As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe^(D) sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

⁶ “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,^(E) who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

²⁷ A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed^(A) for him.

²⁸ Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children.^(A)

⁴⁹ But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee,^(A) stood at a distance,^(B) watching these things.

⁵⁵ The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee^(A) followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.

⁵⁶ Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.^(A) But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.^(B)

Jesus Has Risen^(A)

24 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared^(B) and went to the tomb.
